Palma Serena Becomes 16th Local Company to Adopt-A-Spot!

As regenerative farmers Karen Diaz and her husband Jose Aviña are in the business of making places better than they were before they got there. They’ve only been in Todos Santos for 2.5 years, but their farm, Palma Serena, has already become a gathering place and teaching hub for ASA, Baja’s Food Security Alliance, and regenerative farming workshops at Palma Serena are regularly oversubscribed by local farmers eager to learn sustainable techniques.  Their Friday market, Mercado Orgánico, has become the go-to place to get certifiably organic produce from local farmers (and other yummy things as well), and – in partnerhip with Alianza Cero Basura – they started the community’s first comprehensive glass collection center that takes all hues and color of glass, broken or whole. They have a Water Ways Baja water bottle refill station available for participants in all their program, including the public, so that no one has to resort to single-use plastic water bottles.

It is therefore not surprising to learn that Karen and Jose have expanded their commitment to the community by joining Alianza Cero Basura’s Adopt-A- Spot program by adopting one of the most heavily trafficked areas in town – the part of Calle Topete that includes the big turn at the bottom of the street and the surrounding arroyo. They clean a part of their adopted spot every Monday and community members are welcome to join them.

Alianza Cero Basura’s Adopt-A-Spot program is a key part of the #CuidemosTodos campaign. It is a strong network of local businesses that have adopted public locations throughout town, desert and beach that they have committed to keeping trash-free on an ongoing basis. Alianza Cero Basura continues with community-wide cleanups as well as these events are a wonderful way to inspire people to be stewards of the land and increase pride in our town.
