During the sixth edition of the “More than Recycling” Collection Day in Todos Santos 447.2 kilograms (kg) of waste was collected during the event, including 120 kg of glass, 20 kg of organic waste, 15 kg of batteries, 199 kg of cardboard, 66 kg of plastics, 19 kg of aluminum, 7 kg of expired medications, and 1.2 kg of cigarette butts. In addition 14 liters of used vegetable oil and 68 pieces of electronics were collected.
Speaking to @bcsnoticias, Waste Department head Lizette Rizo stated that goal of the Mas Que Reciclar event is to foster a culture of environmental responsibility among the community, as well as to promote proper waste management and prevent hazardous materials from reaching the community’s waterways.
The program was promoted by Alianza Cero Basura in conjunction with the Todos Santos Delegation, Municipal Services, SEMARNAT and local partners including Amelia Reciclaje, Biosea, La Paz Libre de Colillas, Desierto Abierto, Recolectora Omega, Logysa, Ponguinguiola A.C., Ecoxipe, Ecorevolución A.C., Water Ways Baja, Natura Baja Sur – Collection and Recycling, and Colorado State University.
